I guess there always is a balance.

Well, I've been gone for a while. Summer school has been kicking my a$$ and I've been incredibly busy. So I finally found the time at 4:35am to update you all on this past week because my sleeping patterns are so out of wack.

Last weekend was off to a great start, as Aloha Friday greeted me with a promising swell that would provide the ultimate set up at the "Daytime Nightclub." Sandy's Shorey was not far from epic almost the entire weekend, and when you haven't had a great session in months...there is nothing better than a good barrel in some friendly shore break. Im pretty sure I saw the most barrels I've seen all summer, not many makeable but there were a few golden nuggets displaying their potential. A 4 hour session was more than I could ask for to fufill my weekend ice breaker.

As Saturday came around, I again made my way down to the beach for more fun in the sun. I couldn't help but be happy as I ran into a few friends from the day before who had the same idea as I did, more greenroom time. I surfed for around 3 hours that day, watching hallow barrels make their way to the shore wave after wave. Sandys was definitely PACKING for summer time.

The day was good and I was content, and when I finally made it home, I found myself in a deep slumber. I guess I needed a recharge for my homework session that would follow dinner. I checked in early that night, and was ready for my weekly island tour.

Sunday was once again off to a great start. I was in the mountains by late morning, and this time was just as spectacular as the last. We started on trail around 8:30 or so, and lucky for us were greeted by a beautiful overcast sky making cool and pleasant hiking conditions. Though the sun did appear, its arrival perfect with ours as we reached the summit. Its presence was short but sweet, and was just enough for us to enjoy its warmth and illumination across the island. Then as fast as it came, it soon returned to its misty masquerade in the clouds. Cloudy or not, Ka'au Crater is definitely a place that everyone should see. Its about 5 hours round trip but well worth the trek. I wouldn't recommend a rainy excursion, as the trail runs primarily along river beds and lofy waterfalls.

Here are some photos. Sorry the colors are bit washed out. Im really lazy and don't feel like color correcting.

Overall the weekend was nothing less than a relaxing and enjoyable one, but I was definitely in for a rude awakening. Monday was the start of a 180 flip of my weekend, as a complete downpour of reality flooded my week. Oh how I love school.

"The Bus Route"

Route 14 to be exact. Talk about all nighters, lets just say I have never pulled so many in my entire life. If you are the type of person who hates the computer, or hates to strive for perfection. Don't ever sign up for Art 366 at UHM. Your patience will be tested. I won't go into detail because I want this blog to be positive, but busy is really being forgiving when I describe this past week. 7 days and I spent about 28 hours of it at home, and in my bed. Then I was at school for the other 140 hours, Ill leave it at that. Ill post some photos of that critique later.

Now its Tuesday well Wednesday, and life is finally back to normal. For now.

Misty Lunch

Since the Olomana Excursion I have found myself completely obsessed with hiking. I haven't done very many yet, but I can tell already that this might end up being a weekly affair. Well so far it has been. A friend of mine facebooked me last night about a hike named is Pu'u O Kona, a six mile loop that follows a ridge starting in Kuliouou. Im glad I decided to go as the view at the top was well worth it. We stared out at the bottom of the valley and made our way up to the top of Kuliouou Ridge, where we walked through a series of Pine Tree groves and small Ohia patches. When we neared the summit at the end of the path we stopped to admire the 360ยบ view of most of South and East Oahu. But our journey wasn't over just yet. We proceeded to the top of another peak and walked along the more southern part of the Ko'olau's where we could now see all of Kaneohe and the rest of the mountain range. Meanwhile the clouds had a different plan for us. As we made our way to the highest peak of our journey, the clouds were moving in on us quite fast. Then with the tradewind breeze they soon shot their way up and over the mountain range clouding us in for a cool and misty break for lunch.

Here are some photos and a video from todays hike. Lucky we live Hawaii.
